Rhoda Kadalie was a South African Academic, gender activist and former SA Human Rights Commissioner.
She was born on September 22, 1953, in Cape Town.
Kadalie founded the Gender Equity Unit at the University of the Western Cape in 1973.
Kadalie was active in the toil against apartheid.
Following democracy, she served in President Nelson Mandela’s administration as a commissioner of the South African Human Rights Commission.
She was previously a director at the Impumelelo Centre for Social Innovation, an organisation that supports private-public partnerships in poor communities.
Kadalie was also a columnist for different newspapers.

Human rights activist Rhoda Kadalie died on April 16, 2022, at age 68 after battling lung cancer in Los Angeles.
Rhoda’s death was announced on Facebook by her brother Bruce Kadalie.
In a post he wrote; “Dear FB friends I am deeply saddened to announce the passing of my sister Rhoda Kadalie in LA around 2hrs ago”.
“Sis while your terrible suffering is over, its surreal that you left us so quickly and prematurely”. “That said you lived a large and extraordinary life and impacted so many people in ways that are invaluable”.
“We shall miss you and you will never be forgotten. Farewell my awesome big sis. Forever in my heart. Rhoda Kadalie 22nd September 1953 – 16 April 2022. RIP”.
